Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Psych position requiring at least one year of behavioral health nursing and a ME or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Position located in a free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility
- Unit is the Pediatric Psychiatric Unit serving patients ages 5-18
- Patient diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
- Night shift position, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- RN ratio is 1:5-6 during days and 1:13 at night with resource support
- Pediatric unit supported by Psych Techs and an interdisciplinary team
- All patients are medically cleared prior to admission
- Cerner is the charting system and Pyxis is used for medication administration
- Floating may be required between pediatric and adult units
- Role includes both traditional medical and psychiatric care, as well as facilitating group therapies and activities
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be available but are not required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed; weekend rotation is every other Saturday/Sunday
- No call required; overtime may be available
- Holiday work is required in rotation; no holiday RTO can be accommodated
- Initial orientation consists of one week of day shifts followed by scheduled night shifts
- Must reside 100+ miles south or southwest of Bangor, ME for travel eligibility
- Professional, solid color scrubs required
- Flu vaccination required with only medical exemptions considered
- Facility provides resources for winter working conditions and free parking
Requirements
- Active RN license in ME or Compact state required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required
- Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred; candidates without this experience may be considered with managerial approval
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and physical restraints required (chemical restraints not used)
- Must be comfortable passing medications, running groups, and completing documentation
- Must provide two references within one year, with at least one from a supervisory role
- Applicants must not have worked in a permanent role within any Northern Light Health hospital
