Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Psychiatric position requiring a ME or compact RN license and one year of behavioral health experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric unit serving pediatric patients aged 5-18
- Night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM with every other weekend rotation
- Patient population includes pediatric behavioral health cases such as eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and other psychiatric diagnoses
- Typical patient ratios are 1 RN to 13 patients on nights, supported by multiple psych techs
- No medical lines, drains, or tubes typically present; all patients are medically cleared from the ED
- Use of Cerner for charting and Pyxis for medication management
- Floating between pediatric and adult psychiatric units may be required
- Role involves providing both traditional medical and psychiatric care as well as specialized therapies such as pet therapy and group sessions
- Seclusion rooms may be used when necessary but no forensic patients or inmates are admitted
- RN is supported by a multidisciplinary team including nurse supervisors, psych techs, NPs, psychiatrists, OTs, and a contracted phlebotomist
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Scrubs must be any solid color in a professional style
- Holiday coverage is required in rotation
- Orientation includes one week of day shifts followed by scheduled 12-hour shifts
- Heavy snow and winter conditions should be expected
Requirements
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum one year of behavioral health nursing experience required
- Experience with de-escalation and the use of physical restraints required
- Ability to pass medications, run groups, and complete documentation as required
- Flu vaccination required for flu season unless medically exempt (reviewed and approved by client)
- Must not have worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health Hospital
- Applicants must reside at least 100 miles South/SW of Bangor, ME for consideration
